Daily Bread

As human beings, we can all agree that there are some basic needs that are necessary and must be fulfilled daily.  The body needs water to hydrate itself, it needs food for sustenance and strength.  It also needs sleep in order to be replenished, and it definitely needs air to live.  As our body needs these vital elements for existence and longevity, so too does the spiritual man needs vital things to survive.

It needs the light of the God for revelation and illumination of our invisible pathway.  The spiritual man also needs to be hidden in God, assimilated into him for the air of existence, the scripture tells us that in him (God) we live move and have our being, (Acts 17:28) without him we are nothing. The incense of prayer must be offered also to give us that sweet savour, an aroma that is pleasing and inviting to the presence of God.  Another vital need of the spiritual man is the daily intake of the word, its daily bread.  This spiritual bread, (the word) provides so much, it not only replenishes an strengthen us in him, but it also washes and cleanses us. (Ps 119:9)  It is the word that cleanses us and it is the word that renews our mind.  The word of God is our daily bread, and this bread is vital to the survival of our spiritual man. However, this word of God is two-fold, for there is the word we read, and then there is also the word that God speaks to us daily.  And it is the latter that is most vital, for in every encounter with God, he already knows what we are going to say to him, but we do not know what he is going to say to us.  Paramount therefore, is the word that we receive and it must be received daily.

For trying to face today's challenges on yesterday's word (no matter how profound it was) can prove a mistake.  It is imperative that we start each day getting a daily intake of this vital food.

We see in book of Exodus this example remarkably demonstrated for our admonition.  For during the time that the children of Israel traveled through the wilderness.  Month two and fifteen days into the journey, they began to have withdrawal symptoms for Egypt.  Like a junkie who cannot continue to fight his addiction, and return back to the very thing that was causing his demise, they murmured, wanting to return to the bondage and dung pits God had taken them from.  They longed for the watermelons, but the forgot the beatings they had received.  They yearned for what God had delivered them from.

Tired of their complaints God decided to send them bread from heaven, just what the needed to replenish and strengthen their bodies and keep them moving with enough energy to exit the wilderness.  Of course, God being a God of order, accompanied this provision with instructions as to how they should gather that which he had provided.  For they were to hallow and revere the Sabbath day and were not allowed to do any work therein.

Their directives were to gather one omer per person.  The awesome hand of God had it that it would miraculously multiple or diminish, (as the case may be) that if one took up too much, or too little, when it was weighed, every person had the same amount, one omer.  However, this amount was to be gathered Sunday to Thursday, for it was a daily portion. It was to be eaten all in the day that it had been gathered.  If there was anything left over, it would end up having worms and could not be eaten that day.  They had to gather a new batch, for it was a daily portion. In keeping with his word, for God will not break his own word, he allowed them to gather twice as much on Friday for Friday and Saturday (being the Sabbath day) but this extra amount on Saturday, left back from Friday would still be fresh.  Oh what a Mighty God we serve!

Though the children of Israel were not allowed to gather more than that which was needed per day, God kept his word and in so doing kept their word or daily bread which he had provided them.
Similarly with us, (i feel my help coming on!) we need a daily intake of God's instruction and word.  We cannot afford to try and live tomorrow on today's word and we shouldn't bring into today what we had yesterday.  We need a fresh word.  We need to go to God every day, even if he gives us the same word, we need it get it fresh, for we want to ensure that what we are living on, spiritually is worm free word.

If you have not yet done so, then get to him now and get your daily bread!!!

Often we can be limited by our natural sight, even to the detriment of realising our vision. It is indeed a true loss to have sight yet lack vision.
