Growing up in a Christian environment meant exposure to teachings which sometimes seems to promote male supremacy.  At sixteen I was just happy to be in church and serving God.  However, I could not help but noticed that there were some brothers who would diplomatically express that a woman’s place is in the home.   I remember one Bible class in particular where the Elder taught that a woman is not to teach and that wives were to take a leaf from Sarah’s book in honouring their husbands as she did to Abraham, calling them lord.  I also noticed that whenever there were any kinds of problem within the assembly the brothers would complain to the pastor that the sisters were not ‘submitted to them’ and the flag of non-submission was constantly being flown.

Recently, I visited with Grace Tabernacle and District Elder Reid gave a profound sermon called "The Power to Become".  It really blessed my heart and it reminded me of a song I learned as a child growing up and attending Sunday school.  I love this song and though at 7 years of age I had no idea of what I was singing, when I bellowed at the top of my little lungs, "I am a promise, I am a possibility, I am a promise, with a capital P, I am a great big bundle of potentiality..."  I still enjoyed it. 

As human beings, we can all agree that there are some basic needs that are necessary and must be fulfilled daily.  The body needs water to hydrate itself, it needs food for sustenance and strength.  It also needs sleep in order to be replenished, and it definitely needs air to live.  As our body needs these vital elements for existence and longevity, so too does the spiritual man needs vital things to survive.

I was sat watching the Wimbledon tennis match between Ivan Ljubicic and the British number one, favoured by London at least to win the 2011 Wimbledon games, if he can tower pass Nadal and Federrer; Andy Murray.  As I watched the matched, it took me back to the days when Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi would play.  The quality of the game was so high, the returns were breath-taking and I remember watching Andre Agassi, as the greatest returner, as it was hard to get balls pass him, no matter the velocity of the ball approaching him.
